BelTox Annual Meeting 2022 on the current state of knowledge of the toxicology and ecotoxicology of PFAS

The BelTox annual scientific meeting of 2022 (AM22) will take place in the Grauwzusters chapel at the city campus of the University of Antwerp (Lange Sint-Annastraat 7, 2000 Antwerp) on December 7^th 2022. The theme of the meeting is “Current state of knowledge on the toxicology and ecotoxicology of PFAS”.

The meeting will be introduced by making the audience familiar with the wide variety of chemical structures of PFAS (Pierre Vander Elst, 3M), followed by presentations on the ecotoxicological aspects of PFAS (Thimo Groffen, University of Antwerp), the toxicological aspects of PFAS (Greet Schoeters, VITO) and the setting of limit concentrations of PFAS in serum, food and feed (Frans Verstraete, DG SANTE, EU Commission). The afternoon session will start with a presentation on the need of extended health surveillance of PFAS (PFOA/PFOS) exposed workers (Perrine Hoet, UCLouvain, FEDRIS) followed by 4 short presentations on toxicology and ecotoxicology research within the context of the Young Scientist Competition. The two last presentations of the annual meeting will be on toxicology research performed by the PFAS industry:  Comparative toxicology of two perfluoroalkyl sulfonates (Sue Chang, 3M) and the role and human relevance of PPAR-alpha in the toxicity of HFPO-DA and other PFAS substances (Shawn Gannon, Chemours).

The presentations will be followed by a panel discussion with all the speakers and the proclamation of the Young Scientist Competition.
