27th Merck Organic Chemistry Symposium (MOCS 2025)

04 December 2025 08:45 – 05 December 2025 16:00
Location: Floréal, Koning Albert-I-laan 59, Blankenberge, België
Category: Organic and Bioorganic Chemistry

Welcome to the MOCS 2025!

This symposium, which will enter its 27th edition in 2025, is part of a longstanding series of annual meetings that bring together Belgian organic chemists from both academic institutions and industry to disseminate and discuss all the various aspects of their discipline in a lively, relaxed, and stimulating environment.

The meeting will this year take place on Thursday December 4th and Friday December 5th 2025 at Floreal, a seaside resort in the coastal town of Blankenberge.

The scientific program will include invited lectures, a series of oral communications presented by experienced Ph.D. students and postdoctoral fellows, and a poster session.
To stimulate interactions between academic and industrial chemists, and to allow Ph.D. students and postdoctoral fellows to inquire about job opportunities, a session of flash interviews will be organized with representatives of chemical and pharmaceutical companies.

Confirmed invited lectures include:

  • Prof. Anette Beck-Sickinger (Leipzig University, Germany)
  • Prof. Sébastien Thibaudeau (University of Poitiers, France)
  • Prof. Jonathan Clayden (Bristol University, UK)
  • Prof. Jan Tytgat (KU Leuven, Belgium)

You can register via the website of the KVCV and SRC Division of Organic and Bioorganic Chemistry (DOBC):

https://mocs2025.dobc.be

Please note that the deadline for registration is Saturday November 15th 2025, and that a differentiated registration price is valid for members versus non-members of the KVCV and SRC. We encourage non-members to become an active member of their respective society and profit from the reduced registration fee.

The template for the abstracts can be found on the MOCS website (see ‘Call for Abstracts’).

To stimulate interactions between academic and industrial chemists, and to allow Ph.D. students and postdoctoral fellows to inquire about job opportunities, a session of flash interviews will be organized with representatives of chemical and pharmaceutical companies on Thursday afternoon.

On Thursday, Prof. Jan Tytgat (KU Leuven) will also give an evening lecture entitled: “Forensic Toxicology”.

This lecture will be followed by a dinner and a “Hollywood” themed party. All the participants are invited to dress up for the occasion and experience the next legendary evening. Merck will award a prize for the most original, creative, or funny outfit at the end of the symposium!
