In the year 1939, 16 Flemish chemists decided to establish a Flemish Chemical Society ('Vlaamse Chemische Vereeniging' - VCV). This incentive fitted within the historical evolution of that time, culminating with the Dutchification of Ghent University in 1930 and the language law on primary and secondary education in 1932.

The association celebrates this rhodium jubilee throughout the academic year 2014-2015. Therefore, the KVCV and the chemistry department at Ghent University join forces to organize an academic session at the Ghent University, the Alma Mater of the founding president of the KVCV, honorary rector prof. Jan Gillis.
