The ability to create tiny structures on surfaces using molecules that assemble themselves, called self-assembled molecular networks (SAMNs), is a key technique in nanotechnology. While most research has focused on using just one type of molecule at a time, the real potential lies in combining different molecules to create more complex and multifunctional patterns. Even more control and complexity can be achieved by stacking multiple layers of these molecular networks. In this PhD thesis, we explore various strategies to guide these intricate self-assembly processes, paying special attention to the balance between the forces and factors that drive the molecules to arrange themselves in specific ways. All Dates
