Photoelectrochemical (PEC) conversion of CO2 and NO3- to valuable chemicals is an interesting avenue to store intermittent sunlight and renewable electricity, hence tackling climate change. Its optoelectronic characteristics make Cu2O an appealing photocathode material to drive this reactions, however its stability hinders its use in PEC cells. The thesis focuses on the study of Cu2O instability and on finding solutions to counter it, making Cu2O photocathodes viable for PEC applications.
