In the framework of a research collaboration with JANSSEN PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANIES OF JOHNSON & JOHNSON in Beerse (Belgium), the Maes group of the ORGANIC SYNTHESIS (ORSY) division of the Department of Chemistry of UAntwerpen announces the availability of a full time postdoctoral position:

Job description: You will be working full time in the Drug Chemistry group at Johnson & Johnson in close collaboration with the Maes group. As part of the department for analytical development, you will focus on performing mechanistic studies to investigate, predict, and mitigate chemical drug degradation processes. To be able to propose adequate countermeasures (e.g. using antioxidants, metal scavengers), you will investigate decomposition routes of APIs and study the degradants in terms of their nature, root cause, kinetics as well as their impact on product shelf life. Your work will also involve basic research to develop novel strategies of studying and predicting drug degradation in a systematic way. Finally, you will perform forced degradation studies to support current projects of the Drug Chemistry group at Johnson & Johnson. Hence, your work will directly contribute to the successful development of stable, safe and robust products. It is expected that your work will result in at least one publication in a peer-reviewed journal.

Your Profile: The ideal candidate for this position will have a PhD in organic chemistry with experience with the study of reaction mechanisms/kinetics, HPLC/UPLC and structural characterization of organic molecules. It is an asset to be familiar with at least one tool to study chemical reactions, such as e.g. EPR, electroanalysis, modelling, DoE. The ability to work in a team as well as good communication/writing skills and a good mastery of the English language is essential.
